Many Servicemembers stationed at Naval Submarine Base New London live in its namesake. New London is the a small town located on Connecticut’s eastern coast with a population of just over 27,000. Nestled along the banks of the Thames River, New London offers a short commute to the installation, small-town charm, ample amenities, and affordable real estate. Home to the United States Coast Guard Academy, New London has a strong connection to the sea and a proud tradition of maritime service.

Groton, CT

Interestingly enough, Naval Submarine Base New London is actually located in Groton, a slightly larger city on the opposite side of the Thames River. Servicemembers who choose to live in Groton do so for the shorter commute to base, slightly lower crime rates, and two neighborhoods that are consistently ranked amongst the best places to live in the state: Noank and Mystic. Home prices are slightly more expensive here, but they come with higher appreciation rates and a more up-scale feel.
